Another Accomplished Professional Joins Largest Group of Vascular Surgeons in the Nation
MIDDLETOWN, C.T. (November 15, 2017) – The Vascular Experts, the largest group of Board-certified vascular surgeons in the nation, announced today the appointment of Albert Sam, MD, MS, MMM, FACS. Dr. Sam will see patients at The Vascular Experts’ Middletown office and brings extensive vascular and endovascular surgery experience to the team.
Dr. Sam previously served as an Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Tulane Heart & Vascular Institute in New Orleans. A native of New Orleans, Dr. Sam graduated Magna Cum Laude from Morehouse College and completed a General Surgery Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). At UIC, Dr. Sam received a Master of Science Degree in Surgery from the UIC graduate college where his thesis directly resulted in a new drug use patent for the treatment of sepsis.

Dr. Sam also served as the Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Baton Rouge General Hospital and became one of the first physicians nationally to be Board-certified in general surgery, vascular surgery and endovascular medicine. Dr. Sam has received numerous awards including a selection by the Baton Rouge Business Report as a 2006 “40 under 40” award recipient. He is a graduate of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber leadership program and served on the Board of Directors for the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, a top-20 ranked community foundation with assets valuated at over $600 million.

Dr. Baxter completed his residency at New York University Langone Medical Center and completed a fellowship in the medical center’s Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division. He has held extensive research and volunteer experience at Cornell University, and assisted with provision of clinical care and administration of medications while volunteering in Africa.
